This is your Website
As a teacher you have a unique opportunity to impact kids at risk.
You may be a recently credentialed school teacher who has been mainly acquainted with youth gangs through the media. Or you may have had many first-hand experiences with kids in middle and high school classes who are involved in gangs. Whether you are interested in learning more about gangs to be generally better informed or you are actually looking to apply some teaching initiatives to help your students make wise choices about gangs, this website is for you.
About me: I am a former school psychologist, a performance consultant, a mother and a community volunteer who is assembling the writings and tools of many resourceful groups of people who are coming together in cities like Chicago, Boston, Arkansas and Los Angeles to make a difference.
Some topics discussed in this website:
- Who are the gangs which are prevalent in our district?
- How do you expose details about gang culture to a class of young teen-agers?
- Do you run the risk of glorifying gangs when you educate your students?
- How do you help kids make wise choices and stay away from gangs?
- When does the likelihood of having gang members in your classroom represent a threat to you and/ or your students?
- Should you investigate and report information you have gathered to the school administration and/or the police?
Enjoy the ride!
